Supply Chain

Bordeaux-Gironde is the multimodal supply chain hub for the European Atlantic Area.

An ideal position on the North-South route down the Atlantic coast and on the doorstep of the Iberian market, the quality of international transport services and plentiful supply of land for development are all factors that make the region an attractive one for supply chain businesses.

With almost 30,000 jobs, Bordeaux Gironde is France’s N°1 supply chain hub outside Paris.

  • Based along Europe’s largest estuary, the Atlantic Port of Bordeaux handles some 8.5 million tonnes of goods a year. It has 7 port terminals and services to 300 ports around the world.
  • Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport, the 5th airport in France, has a 15,000m² freight terminal and 41,000m² of private facilities at the heart of the Aéroparc technology park. It has a capacity of 100,000 tonnes a year.
  • Bordeaux is also the rail hub of southern Europe, in particular for connections to the Iberian Peninsula and Toulouse.
  • And also a motorway hub: A 10 (Bordeaux Paris), A 62 (Bordeaux Toulouse), A 63 (Bordeaux Bayonne), A 89 (Bordeaux-Clermont-Lyon) and A65 (Bordeaux-Pau).

The range of services for businesses is extensive, with a wide range of supply-chain services in road haulage, rail, maritime and air transport, warehousing, packaging, freight forwarding, chartering and e-logistics.

Training and research in supply chain management is also among the best, with the ISLI (Global Supply Chain Management), the European leader in supply chain training, the University Technology Institute of Logistics and Transport Management and AFT IFTIM.

Key supply chain sites: Bordeaux Freight multimodal platform – 6 port zones – airport platform – Hourcade combined platform – Libourne supply chain zones – Cestas Pot au Pin – New Grattequina port terminal.

Key supply chain operators: Daher Aerospace, DHL, Geodis, GT Logistics, LR Services, Norbert Dentressangle, Schenker, Olano, Sea-Invest, STEF TFE, Boueix Logistique, Montané, Heppner, Leroy Logistique…
