Optics/Lasers/Photonics

The Mega joule Laser – this €1.2 billion investment in the Bordeaux region is one of the engines of national economic development and the focal point of the development of optics/lasers and photonics sectors.

Centred on a Competitiveness Cluster called the Route de Lasers, this scientific equipment is one of only two such facilities in the world today. Through the Institute of Lasers and Plasmas and the Pétawatt project, the research potential in this sector in the Bordeaux area is unrivalled in the world.

ICT

Created nearly 20 years ago the Bordeaux Computer Science Research laboratory – LaBRi has achieved international recognition for the quality of its research.

In 2002, l’INRIA set up on the Bordeaux University Campus to develop, in partnership with the teams from LaBRI, a new Futures Research Unit. Today 5 common projects are underway.

Health

The Functional Genomics Platform aims to put a scientific and technological infrastructure in place to position Bordeaux as a leader in the field of Genomic Function. Training, research and development are all key features. The specialist research teams concentrate on five areas of expertise ; bioinformatics, Genomics, Proteomics, Cell Imaging and Cell Biology.

Oenology

The Institute of Vines and Wine Sciences brings together all the necessary competences in the wine field and coordinates the work of researchers to develop synergy in this sector. This important centre is home to 150 researchers and 400 students situated on a 7,000 m² campus.
