New homes and eco-districts
There are 2 major objectives for our housing policy in coming years: to build 50,000 new homes around public transport networks and renovate another 10,000 homes by 2030, with 55% social housing in new development operations.
The construction of eco-districts with homes and workplaces, the first of which will be the Ginko eco-district on the banks of the lake in 2012.
Terre Sud to the south of the city is placing its focus on environmentally-friendly transport and will have the first energy-positive secondary school in Aquitaine.
On the right bank of the river, the Bastide Niel eco-district will include 2,300 homes set on 30 hectares.
Housing is among the cheapest in the major French cities and Bordeaux continues to offer some of the best value for money.
Household home-buying power in square metres is higher in Bordeaux than in other French large cities: 53m² in Bordeaux against 31 m² in Paris, for example in 2012.
According to Eurocost, Bordeaux is one of the major French cities where purchasing power is highest The cost of living is 30% lower than in the City of Paris and 20% lower than in the Paris region as a whole.
