The health sector in Aquitaine represents 14,000 jobs, 1,000 companies and 2,500 researchers. Thanks to the presence of a large number of facilities belonging to major international corporations (Merck Serono, Ceva Santé Animale, Sanofi, Strycker Spine…) and start-ups specialising in services to the pharmaceutical industry and in biotechnologies, Bordeaux and its region cover the whole service chain from end to end, from research all the way through to industrial innovations.
Alongside the Health ICT Cluster firmly establishing itself as the leader in France (1,000 jobs, 40 companies), 3 emerging sectors are forming clusters: medical equipment and medical devices (Acteon, Steris), implants – biomaterials and pharmacy.
Research potential in neurosciences, cardiology, cancerology, bioinformatics and medical imaging makes this a sector attracting big investments for the future.
The first French public-private platform in clinical research for industrial promotion adds further to making Bordeaux attractive.
Bioparc technology park is currently being developed to host projects in biotechnologies, health technologies and services to the health industry. The Biogalien innovation centre is its 1st project.
