The Sporting Life

Aquitaine figures among the top regions in France for the number and the quality of its golf courses.

Over 1,700 miles of hiking and trekking paths through vineyards, along rivers and over the hills, plus over 600 miles of cycle tracks, provide ample and varied opportunities for nature lovers to get away from it all.

When it comes to sailing, diving and surfing, the Gironde is the place to be, with nearly 500 miles of navigable waterways, plus the Arcachon Basin, a virtual inland sea, and many other lakes, while along the Atlantic “Côte d’Argent”, there are marvelous beaches waiting to be discovered.

Board sports buffs can indulge their favorite hobby at various places only 40 minutes from Bordeaux and every year, Lacanau-Pro is host to the international surfing stars.

Further south in Aquitaine, the Pyrenees rise to 9,000 feet. In the heart of the Parc National des Pyrénées, all forms of altitude sports are on offer – hiking, climbing, skiing, snowboarding, off piste skiing and raquetting.

The Médoc Marathon offers a rich menu of fun, wine tasting and gastronomy and for high performing athletes, there’s the Décastar decathlon.

Eventing enthusiasts can enjoy Jumping International. For soccer fans, our idols are Les Girondins de Bordeaux and for rugby union fans there is the famous Bordeaux side at Bègles. So Bordeaux can offer a rich selection of sporting activities.
