Bordeaux and in towns within Greater Bordeaux area

Bordeaux offers a rich architectural heritage and a living environment in keeping with its historic roots and this is very apparent across the various quarters of the city. Throughout this great metropolis, district after district offers a very agreeable urban environment with the feel of a relaxing place to live.

Live in the Country or by the Sea

Outside the city, all around the Department of the Gironde, there is beautiful countryside, full of streams and rivers. Along the coast, which has been protected from sprawling piecemeal development, seaside towns succeed little ports along the Garonne and Dordogne rivers and the Estuary of the Gironde.
Great spreads of vines complement the scene, from the snow-white gravelly soil of the Médoc, planted with vines as far as the eye can see, to the undulating hills of the Entre-Deux-Mers, through the Pomérol and on to Saint-Emilion.

There are many “bastides”, surviving vestiges of a lengthy occupation by the English between 1250 and 1350.
These are charming little towns, with old stone houses built around a main square, which still maintain their character as a good place for living, for going to market and for public entertainments and festivals.

Closer to Bordeaux, the towns and villages around the outskirts are set in delightfully varied countryside, full of hills and valleys.
Everything has been done to preserve the image and identity of an agreeable rural living environment, a far cry from the usual suburban sprawl.
