USA’s First Solar Lights Upon Bordeaux

First Solar, American world leader in solar panels, and EDF Energies Nouvelles have jointly announced the setting up of a manufacturing plant on the Blanquefort Ecoparc, the biggest in France.

The $150 million project is reckoned to create 380 new jobs by end 2012. Construction starts in September 2010 and production will begin in 2012, building up to its maximum capacity of more than 100 Megawatts annually.

Local government bodies (Bordeaux City Authority, Gironde Council and Aquitaine Region) will contribute around $48 million, principally in the form of investing in real estate .

The site will include a solar panel recycling unit, the first in France.
