Aquitaine’s military-industrial cluster will soon be home to part of SIMMAD, the national defense organization dedicated to maintaining the operational readiness of French military aircraft and other equipment.
It is located at the Brétigny air base on the outskirts of Paris. Some 400 of the staff will shortly be relocating to a site close to Bordeaux Airport.
This move reflects Aquitaine’s strengths in this field : a very strong Air Force presence here ; many large aerospace companies already serving military customers ; the second most important area in France for Department of Defense establishments and a high level of support from local public bodies.
