On 18 December the Darwin Project team came back from the Copenhagen Summit, having received confirmation of the international partnership agreement with the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).
In line with this accord, the Darwin Project and the City of Bordeaux become the French UNEP pilot sites for determining a new international yardstick for measuring the carbon footprint of buildings and cities. According to its promoters, the Darwin project puts in hand the eco-renovation of a historic military heritage site in the heart of Bordeaux, the Niel Barracks.
The Darwin Project aims to respond in a practical way to the issues of durable development, combining sustainable growth with selective growth reduction, by controlling environmental impact and energy use, and by reducing operating costs. All these criteria demand a new approach to buildings management.
By the same token, the architectural aspect of the project is also vital.
