The Aquitaine region in general, and Metropolitan Bordeaux in particular, continue to exert their attractions. The quality of life here appeals not only to retired people, but also to those in mid-career.
Between 2000 and 2005, there has been an annual population influx of 17,000 from other regions. This figure includes 3,600 retirees and 7,500 people in active occupations.
Overall, Aquitaine ranks third among regions with a positive population increase and fourth in the employed sector. Newcomers in this younger (27-40) group are mainly from the the Paris Basin. The population in Greater Bordeaux is now approaching 1 million. This growth is the result of the vigorous activity of its elected representatives, the general environment and the basic attraction of Bordeaux itself.
