Following closely on the heels of Paris, Marseille, Lyon and some other French cities, Bordeaux is providing free bikes on loan to the public. As from 20th February, 1,545 bikes are now available.
Dubbed VCUB, the service complements existing public transport facilities and was launched almost simultaneously with the TBC, the newly coordinated bus and tram network.
The 1,545 bikes will be available 24/7 at 139 pick-up points to anyone with a credit card or season ticket valid for the Bordeaux bus/tram system.
Bordeaux is also proud to have mounted the Cyclab event in early February, themed The Bike of the Future and the Future of the Bike.
This attracted nearly 600 delegates from all over Europe. We were delighted to welcome celeb designer Philippe Starck to take part in the closing debate on mobility, during which Mayor Alain Juppé officially launched l’Appel de Bordeaux en faveur du vélo (The Bordeaux Appeal to enhance the status of the bike as a technical, social and environmental step forward).
