A seventh terminal for the Port of Bordeaux

17/11/2011

The Grattequina port site will soon be welcoming its first ships. In October 2011 work was started to redevelop this former coal terminal located on the left bank of the River Garonne.

Perfectly adapted to the loading of heavy and large-dimension packages, the Grattequina site will be used among other things to ship wind-turbine blades produced by the EADS Astrium plant at Blanquefort Ecoparc. The terminal will also be used to take delivery of aggregates. The work will be carried out in two phases at a total cost of €13.7 million. Delivery of the first phase is planned for February 2012, and small-sized turbine blades (30 m) will be shipped as early as the first quarter of next year.

Completion of the second phase will allow the reception of ships able to carry large blades (75 m).

With this seventh terminal which has been made possible thanks to the availability of large stretches of land, the Port of Bordeaux is also preparing to support new industrial implantations working in renewable energy sources and generating maritime traffic.
